Hello, People Of…

Nasty Combover - NOT ME!!!Hi,

Couple of posts ago, I talked about EntreCard and Jay left a comment… naturally I visited Jays’ site and somehow I ended up at the website of The University Kid – TUK lives in Dubai, UAE – anyway you an always read his About page to learn more about him … so it was 1:00am PST so I was pretty sleepy and not sure how I ended up there (he’s not really a smart aleck, but a pretty smart guy…).

I had been there in the past a couple of times, but for whatever reason never bookedmarked him or added him to my RSS reader.

So this time I spent a few minutes there – around 10 or 15 and read several posts.  One post that blew me away (am I showing my age by using slang that is 20 years old???  Maybe it’s time for a comb-over, record a YouTube video like John Chow [it's his Shitty Attempt at a Viral Video] did and it’ll go viral???) was this one - http://theuniversitykid.com/you-wont-believe-whose-brains-we-managed-to-pick/.

If you’re looking to make it B-I-G by becoming a professional blogger, check out The University Kid.  You will not be disappointed!

Regards,

Mo

P.S. No – I’ll never do a comb-over.  I may be old and loosing my hair, but that’s just ridiculous!!!

P.P.S. No – that nasty combover is NOT ME!

This Smart Aleck Could Teach YOU A Thing Or Two!

Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy GuideHi,

Some time back, Ed Rivis was offering his Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy Guide.  Initially it was for FREE (PDF download), then it was offered at a huge discount.  I missed both… too bad, so sad.

Then one day I was searching for something else in Google, and I came across the Sumatrix website and there was an irresistable offer where you could sign up to their mailing list and you would get one chapter free each week.  Cool.  So I subscribed.

A few days later I rec’d an e-mail from Ed explaining what the site was set-up for and that rather than send me each chapter by e-mail each week he would mail me a copy of the book.  Cool!

So I sent him my home address and waited.  And waited.  And waited.  The book was arriving from the UK, so I expected it to take a week or two.

At first I wasn’t sure if I would get it – but sure enough, the book arrived a couple of days ago!

The package…

Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy

The book…

Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy

BONUS – an autographed copy of the book!

Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy

Thank you Ed!  I appreciate you sending me a copy of the book and that, an autographed copy!

So What is the Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy All About?

Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy

This book is “The Essential Resource on How To Use the Internet to Acquite New Customers & Clients and Optimise Sales and Profitability“.

Phew!  Quite a big statement to be made from a book that’s only 208 pages long!

The book is separated into 6 parts:

  1. Prerequiesites
  2. Front-end Acquisition
  3. Integrated Marketing
  4. Back-end Marketing
  5. Scientifically Optimizing Sales
  6. Putting It All Together

The book provides information on promoting sites using traditional marketing methods such as press releases and even article marketing.  You read about link building and even search engine optimization.

The creme del-la creme of the book (in my opinion) is the section on Scientifically Optimizing Sales – which goes into split-path testing, and multi-variate testing two VERY powerful methods of testing.

Testing is something that is imperetive on your site, especially if you are marketing products and services.  You need to constantly test your headlines, colors, various calls to action — just about anything you can think of you should be testing.

This books is VERY GOOD.  It has something for everyone — from the complete beginner to more advanced webmasters and business owners.

If I only had a book like this when I started out, I would have spent far less than $10,000 on the latest gimmick that the gurus were flogging that week (read my About page to better understand what I mean).

I remember spending over $100.00 at one point to learn about back-end sales, but you get it in this book for around $40.00 US.

Want to learn about AdWords?  Spend $97.00 on an e-book or $40.00 US on Eds book.  How about keywords?  Yup, Ed covers it in Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy and for around $40.00 US.

The section on copywriting is pure gold – individuals pay top dollar to learn copywriting or to have a professional write their copy for them.  In the Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy you learn this about copywriting:

  • How to Master the Most Powerful Element on any Sales Web Page
  • Examples of Great Headlines That Sell
  • What Every Sales Page Simply Must Have

There is even an entire part on Profitable Blogging!

Ed leaves no stone unturned, this book gives you the knowledge you need in order to ensure that your business has started on the right foot.

Looking for more opinons on Eds’ book?

Here are a couple of links:

I highly recommend that you purchase this book, it can be found directly through Eds website - Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy.  It sells for roughly $40.00 US and is worth every single dollar.

So I’ve gone through this about a dozen times since I rec’d it — and I’m off to read it yet again!

Regards,

Mohamed

We Upgraded To WordPress 2.5

Hi,

I installed WordPress on my other site (http://www.mohamedbhimji.com) with a stable release of WordPress 2.5 and was pretty happy with it.  Then this morning, I saw that WP issued notice that WP 2.5 is ready for general release.

So after backing-up my DB, generating my home directory back-up along with FTP’ing over all essential files I started to upgrade the site to WordPress 2.5.

In fact if you were visiting, you may have even noticed some errors — but less than 10 minutes later it was done – I ran the upgrade and viola!  WordPress 2.5 was up and running without any error!

If you are thinking about upgrading – YOU SHOULD!  The admin has been totally revamped.  It is VERY NICE.

Here is the admin dashboard – it’s kinda tiny, sorry ’bout that:

WordPress 2.5

But at a glance you can tell immediately your blogs stats (# of posts, # of pages, # of drafts, # of scheduled posts).  You can write a new page or post quickly.  You can even see your recent comments without going into the comments menu.

I personally really like Wordpress 2.5.

The install was painless, I just made sure I had a backup of my old wp-config.php file and copied the required contents into the new version of the file (there is a small change to the file).

If you’re feeling daring – I’d recommend upgrading to Wordpress 2.5!

Regards,

Mo

Internet Business – Blog Carnival – Edition 7

Internet Business Blog CarnivalHi,

Every week, getting the Blog Carnival assembled and edited down to the final list gets easier.  You can easily tell the submitters that use services to post — since they always submit the same item; so it’s easy to screen the wheat from the chaff.

Last week, I added a new feature called Editors Picks. These are posts that I found especially relavent to running an internet business — that’s not to say that the other entries in the carnival are not good, but these stood out for me.

I hope you enjoy my picks and the rest of the carnival!

As usual – if there is something that doesn’t fit – let me know so that I can better review for the next carnival which will be published on April 6, 2008 – if you didn’t submit for this carnival, I hope you are able to for the next.

Internet Business Blog Carnival Editors Picks

As I put the Internet Business Blog Carnival together, I frequently visit new submitters. This gives me a chance to look at what they are doing on their sites. This is a new feature that I’m adding to my Internet Business Blog Carnival — that is, the Editors Picks. In addition to listing them here (so it is easy to link to) I’ve also talked about them in the podcast. This podcast is 2 minutes and 27 seconds long.

Regards,

Mohamed

Site Stats to March 29, 2008

Site StatsHi,

Just a quick update as to how the blog is going.

I’m still waiting for Google to give my page some page rank – but I guess it will happen when it does.  However Alexa is picking up, albeit slowly.  I’m ranked at 363,106 — not bad in my humble opinion.  OIBO is really a one-person show at this point, so it’s tough to comment on other blogs, submit to blog carnivals, host a growing and popular carnival plus all the other things that go with running a blog.  But I’m happy with my progression – though I know I could be doing A LOT more.

I’m not quite ready to reveal my RSS numbers.  They are not spectacular, and I’ve done very little to promote the RSS feed.  Same goes for my blog alerts — I really need to work on enticing people to subscribe (hint – premium product in exchange for your e-mail address is coming!).

However according to my stats package there were 126 hits to my RSS feed over at FeedBurner (http://feeds.feedburner.com/oibo/XVpH).

I even had several googlebot spoofers visit the site!

One of the BIGGEST nuisances has been spam comments and trackbacks.  I re-installed Akismet to stop spam and it’s doing a GREAT job.  I need to approve comments from time-to-time, but no worries.  I also installed a plugin to kill all the trackback spam — man this has been a godsend!  It really cleaned up a mess. So while the splogs do give me inbound links they are of course of very (VERY) low quality.  In fact I’ve yet to see even one visitor from the splogs – guess the guys running them are not doing too well!!!  :-)

Since February 29, the blog is doing reasonably well.  These stats are from February 29 to March 29 (generated around 11:57pm PST):

Site Stats

These stats are generated from my raw log files, and analyzed using an application called WebLog Expert.

Remember the blog has been at the new site (www.oibo.org) since February 8, 2008 as it was originally at http://www.online-internet-business-opportunity.com from the start of the year.

Some of my top referrers have been StumbleUpon and DIGG, but commenting on other blogs is also bringing in a lot of visitors – in total over 800 visitors from other blogs — and that’s only from commenting on about 20 or so blogs.

Anyway I just wanted to share some of the sites stats with you.

Regards,

Mohamed
