8 WordPress Plugins You Must Have For Your WordPress Blog

There are a few things that you simply must have when you’re running a Wordpress blog and especially if you intend to make money from that blog. Here are, therefore, several plugins that you need to have in your Wordpress installation:
- Install the “Ultimate Tag Warrior” plugin get it at http://www.neato.co.nz/ultimate-tag-warrior/ - the author says it won’t work on the newer installations, so take your chances. Alternatively you can use Simple Tags plugin and you can get it here http://www.herewithme.fr/wordpress-plugins/simple-tags, this is what I use and made slight modifications to it.
- Install the “SEO Title Tag” plugin get it at http://www.netconcepts.com/seo-title-tag-plugin/ - recommended to me, but I don’t use this at present.
- Install the “Google Sitemaps Generator” plugin get it at http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/ - I use this and it works without fail.
- Install the “Related Posts” plugin get it at http://mitcho.com/code/yarpp/. Courtney talks about why you need a “Related Posts” plugin here - http://courtneytuttle.com/2007/03/06/related-posts-plugin-and-seo/ – the one she recommends is not the one I’ve suggested here. You can use the one I’ve suggested, or any other one out there. I am in the process of installing this, and will report back…
- Install the “Landing Sites” plugin you are supposed to get it here http://theundersigned.net/2006/06/landing-sites-11/ but the page is blank there is a modified version to handle Wordpress Cache here http://blog.circlesixdesign.com/2007/01/23/landing-sites-no-cache/. There is more information about a fix here http://izachy.com/2006/07/18/fix-landing-sites-plugin/ for the original version. Eeek! I’d like to use this, but will try it out on a “test” install first.
UPDATE: You can download a version of Landing Sites here http://www.wp-plugins-db.org/plugin/landing-sites/. I have installed it and am a testing it, and will report back on how well it works (or doesn’t).
- Install the “All In One SEO” plugin get it here http://wp.uberdose.com/2007/03/24/all-in-one-seo-pack/ another one called SEO_WORDPRESS is available here http://www.utheguru.com/seo_wordpress-wordpress-seo-plugin but I have not tried that one. I use “All In One SEO” - however SEO_WORDPRESS looks good also, I’ll try this out on a test install before migrating it into the production site.
- Install the “DoFollow” plugin get it at http://www.semiologic.com/software/wp-fixes/dofollow/ - use it and love it!
- Install the “SpamKarma” plugin get it at http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/ - use it and love it! Just TRY spamming me!
Finally the BEST way to optimize your Wordpress Blog and attract search engines like a bee to a sweet flower:
Post updates on a regular basis. This will help you to establish a solid reader base. Since many of your readers will be webmasters, they will, of course, link to posts from your blog which are worth the “link love”.
