EntreCard - Keep It Or Let It Go?

Hi,

Recently EntreCard has been getting a lot of press on various blogs.

For those of you who don’t know what EntreCard is:

Entrecard is the first and only free exchange network for 125×125 ads. Through this revolutionary platform, you can advertise your own 125×125 Entrecard on any blog in the network, for free, for a number of days.

You pay for this advertising with Entrecard Credits, that you earn for free by networking (a.k.a. visiting blogs and dropping your card for other bloggers).

Does it work?  Over the course of the month I’ve rec’d about 52 visitors from EntreCard however the bounce rate is pretty high - around 85% and the average user spend less than 1 minute on the site.

Some bloggers doubt it and others are asking questions whether it works or not.  Here are a few posts that will enlighten you:

Here is an interview with Graham Langdon of EntreCard - http://www.problogger.net/archives/2008/01/10/interview-with-entrecards-graham-langdon/.

Although I like EntreCard and it does get me some visitors - it slows down my page loads.  I’ll keep it around for a while longer to give it a chance to see how well it works and decide whether to keep it, or free up the space for something else.

I’d like to hear from you.

Do you use EntreCard?  What are your stats like?

Regards,

Mo

I just scrapped mine. I was getting too many widgets. I didn’t want to keep up with approving ads. As far as I could tell I wasn’t getting too many clicks, and I doubted the value of those visitors.

It might work, I just don’t want to take the time to find out.

Hi Stephen,

Great to hear from you!

I am also thinking of scrapping it - I’ve just moved it below my sponsored ads.

I also find it slows down the site load time as well…

I agree with your assertion - the quality of visitors is not good; most people stay for only a few seconds hence the high bounce rate.

Mo

I would say get rid of it. A lot of die-hard Entrecarders defend it so much because that’s where all their traffic comes from. You should read this post I wrote a week or two ago at http://www.datmoney.com/2008/03/if-you-didnt-have-entrecard-your-blog.html

(Sorry, didn’t mean to drop a link and seem like a spammer!)

Hi Jay,

Just read your post - and you know, most people that have run EntreCard have all said the same thing. The bounce rates are VERY HIGH - definately not healthy.

If you are building your site and traffic based on EntreCard, then this is really like setting up a gazillion splogs in the hopes of making it from AdSense or other PPC programs. It’s just not going to work in the long term.

One thing I have done is moved EntreCard down from my sponsored ads and will eventually shuffle it right down to the bottom. I am finding that other programs, like MyBlogLog are helping more than EntreCard to introduce new people to the site and vice-versa.

EntreCard is on its way out… :-)

Take care,

Mo

Yeah, since I stopped dropping (noticed how I didn’t drop a card in your inbox), I don’t get many visitors from there, but when I do, they stay literally 2 seconds on my site lol!

But I still have it on my site at the bottom, but I don’t really drop anymore.

Jay

I haven’t tried Entrecard. [Nate's Post](http://natespost.com/index.php/quick-conversation-with-entrecard/) had an interesting article on it. Pretty much everything I’ve read about it it negative… maybe there’s some positive aspects, but I haven’t heard much about them. I guess free traffic is nice. But then, what’s so wrong with visiting tons of sites and dropping actual comments?

[...] of posts ago, I talked about EntreCard and Jay left a comment… naturally I visited Jays’ site and somehow I ended up at the [...]
