This has nothing to do with running an internet business… but more with productivity, and using time wisely, which I supposed could be used to your advantage if you are starting an internet business.
The Fall TV season is upon us – some will be busy watching reruns, others watching the newest Fall TV season shows and there are a few good ones out there. I love science fiction, so enjoy watching TV. There are sports junkies out there – like one of my neighbors who is now wathing the U.S. Open — I’m not a super sports fan, but don’t mind watching some sports on TV (if you enjoy the U.S. Open – here is the link to the realtime scores http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/index.html?promo=hpScoreboard or visit the main page at http://www.usopen.org/en_US/index.html).
Now TV is great, it does provide an escape but you can get the same escape a few different ways:
- Go out for a walk. It clears your mind, and lets you concentrate and work out what’s important in your life.
- Read – open your mind to the possibilities out there!
So how does this relate to running your internet business. Simple. Most people that start out run their business part-time, so they’ve got full-time jobs at various levels and many have families as well.
If you were to spend 2-3 hours at work dawdling, would you get anything done? Probably not. Would you get fired? Probably. Running your own business works the same way, just because you do it at home there is more freedom but more distractions. You really need to block off time to work on growing and promoting your business instead of watching TV. Leave TV for Friday or Saturday – and work for a few hours at your business during the week but ALSO remember your family as they need your time and attention also.
TV is unfortunately a time vampire/sucker. If you could get some value out of it, then it might be fine – but in most cases you don’t. Need to unwind? Go out for a walk, ride a bicycle or if you have kids take them to the park. Need to destress? Exercise, work out – burn it off. TV will just turn your mind to mush.
Don’t get me wrong, I know that there are those out there that advocate no TV at all – I feel that you should take the best of everything and use it to your advantage.
It’s all a balancing act, but cutting out TV will save you enormous amounts of time that where you can channel your energy into growing your business so that you don’t need to work and can make a majority of your income via the internet and your internet business.
