One WordPress Plugin You Simply MUST Have

Hi,

I’ve talked about several WordPress plugins you simply must have installed on your blog.  There are dozens of great plugins out there, but they all eat up valuable load time on your blog.  However if there is one other plugin you simply need to install, it is this one: aLinks.

aLinks allows you to turn simple text that you enter in your post into linked text.

So for example, I have aLinks set-up so that when I mention The University Kid - it’s automatically linked to his site.  Or if I mention a great post of Jack Keifer… yup, taken care of by aLinks.

aLinks is easy to setup, and VERY powerful.

Once you install it into your WordPress installation, simply ACTIVATE the plugin.  To manage your aLinks, simply click on the aLinks item as it shows up on your WordPress dashboard.

aLinks is extremely powerful.  There is a whole host of options available to fully take advantage of the system.  Included is some simple statistics as well!  You can’t ask for more from a FREE PLUGIN.

Under the SETTINGS item you can set the image to be displayed after each aLinked phrase.  You an also set whether the link opens in a new window, or the same window.  There is even an option to turn on link click tracking.

Creating your aLinks is easy.

Click on over to the KEYPHRASES item.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, enter the KEYPHRASE, the DESCRIPTION and the URL.  This URL is actually pointing to a site and contains an embedded affiliate link — but you can’t tell!

Click on UPDATE KEYPHRASE.

Want to see all your keyphrases?  Scroll up a bit…

Want to edit one of the phrase?  Select the row, and then double-click on it.

It’s that simple to use.

Now everytime I use the term Ultimate Web Marketing Strategy in any post, it will be hyperlinked to the url http://www.oibo.org/uwms - cool, eh!

The stats are very basic, but can give you some good information.  Note that I have not made extensive use of this plugin (my bad) so my stats look pretty miserable.

So aLinks can even generate graphs.  Nice.

So how can aLinks help you make money?  Haven’t you been reading?

OK.  Lets go over it ONE MORE TIME.

Suppose you sell a fantastic product, say like custom wordpress themes.  Each time you use the term custom wordpress themes, it’s linked to the URL of your choosing.  You don’t even have to think about doing it.  THAT’S how you make money.

Suppose you’ve made 2 or 3 great posts for your custom wordpress themes, and have forgotten to include the link to your custom wordpress themes site and several months go by — how much have you lost?  Especially if you see that there are hundreds of reads of those blog posts AND dozens and dozens of comments about your custom wordpress themes.

See what I mean?

The cool thing is that you don’t even have to think about it - aLinks does its magic once the post is published.  You don’t ever have to manually create the URL link.

A couple of fantastic features of aLinks is the Deeper Blog Keyphrases option:

Deeper Blog Keyphrases

The majority of people visiting your blog are arriving at a post from a search engine like Technorati or Google, and many of those people will read your post and then move on. Everyone wants to bring people deeper into their blog, and aLinks’ new Deeper Blog module can help.

The Deeper Blog module creates links within your blog post to other posts within your blog that has content related to the keyphrase. If you define the keyphrase “magic”, and use the word “magic” in a post, aLinks will turn that word into a link to another post in your blog that appears to have something to do with magic.

Visitors will read your post, and then follow the links. As they follow the links they go deeper into your blog.

The other option is Max links per keyphrase.  You can set this to 1 so that the first instance of the phrase is linked, or leave it blank so that EVERY instance is linked.

There are a few bugs, some presentation — but minor.  When you click on KEYPHRASES you can minimize/maximize some of the boxes; this did not work.  The max links per keyphrase did not seem to work for me either.  Could be the version I’m using with is 1.0rc1 and rc2 is now available…

So go to Headzoo and download aLinks - just click on either the Headzoo or aLinks hyperlink.  Cool, eh?!
