I actually read an article somewhere that breaking some of the &quot;simple&quot; captchas is quite easy and that the spambots are able to crack &#039;em without much difficulty.  Apparently is because most of the simpler systems use black text on white or some other color so the scripts filter out colors based on some algorithm since in most cases the captcha text is darker than the background its on.
