YouTube – Personal Homepages

YouTube Personal Homepage

So I’ve not noticed this before, but it appears that YouTube now allows personalized homepages.

The new features included in our most recent site update are geared toward a more personalized experience for you. Check out the details…

NEW PERSONALIZED HOMEPAGE

Our goal is to give a simple answer to the question, “What should I watch today?” with a personalized, customizable homepage that makes it easy to find the videos and people that you care about. After reviewing results from our beta test and feedback from the community, we’re happy to now release the new personalized homepage to all logged-in users. Since launching the beta version in February, data has shown an increase in the number of users visiting the homepage, the frequency of visits, and the number of subscriptions users make over time. So, this optimized version of the homepage not only means a customizable experience for you, but more exposure for your cool videos and channels on YouTube (Note: if you are logged out or do not have an account you won’t be able see the personalized homepage).

IMPROVED EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS

The email messages you receive from YouTube have been updated with a new layout. In addition to a streamlined design and many wording changes, any comments or messages are now included directly within the body of the email, saving you time.

You can read more on the YouTube blog – New Personalized Homepage and Improved Email Notifications.

Start Your Own YouTube Service WITHOUT OpenSource

Start Your TubeSo I was surfing the web, and came across TechCrunch – you know the guys the ones wth almost 800,000 RSS feed readers and gazillions of visitors to their site. Well anyway they had this write up on a new service called StartYourTube.com.

StartYourTube does exactly what the name implies. You can go onto the site, create your own “tube”, customize it with colors and graphics, mask it to your own domain, invite friends, and start loading content. The tubes not only host videos but have sections for pictures, audio files, and blogs as well.

So we popped on over to ensure that nobody squatted on OIBO – donachaknow it’ll become a household name some day…

So on top of being able to run your own YouTube copy-cat service, you have the chance at winning $500 – every friggin month! Now if that’s not cool, I don’t know what is.

How Things Work

Start Your Own YouTube Service WITHOUT OpenSource

Video blogging is not new.  There are many blogs out there… er sorry, VLOGS out there.  But how do you get into video blogging?  Just what is video blogging all about?  How is video blogging different from podcasting?

I’ll be answering these questions, and then some over the next few months with an exclusive series on video blogging.

As part of the series, my goal is to interview video bloggers to gain insight into their tools and processes.

I will be posting the excerpts of the entire series on the blog here, BUT the full-post will be password protected.  In order to view the content, you will need to register for my blog alerts.

In preparation for this series, I’m asking YOU – what pressing information or questions do you need answered on the topic of video blogging?  Who do YOU feel we should interview?  Simply comment to the post!

Video Blogging – Taking Your Blog To The Next Level

How To Embed Videos In Your WordPress Blog

VideosHi,

Adding videos to your Wordpress blog is easy.

In fact, it is SO EASY that I put together a quick YouTube video showing you how.

This video shows you from A to Z, how to record your video using an application YouTube Videocalled Camtasia.  How to convert the video to a format that is acceptable to YouTube, and how to upload the video to YouTube.

I show you which plugin you simply must have in order to quickly and easily display the video to your users.

I’ll show you where to download the plugin from, how to install it and configure it and will show you the plugin in action — that is, how to add your recently uploaded video to YouTube also appear on your post.

Now why would you want to upload videos to YouTube?  Why not just upload them to your server?

  1. Viral videos
  2. Space & bandwidth

If your video is GOOD, word will spread and it becomes viral or atleast A LOT of people view the video.

Why host the video on your site and suck up bandwidth?  Let YouTube use up their bandwidth hosting your videos.

I do apologize in advance for how grainy the video is.  When it was recorded, it was much cleaner.  Here is the video…

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck. Adobe Flash Player is required to view the video.

Here is the link to the video on YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8NdeUT62l4

In the next couple of days, I’ll post a video showing you how to upload your video to YouTube!

Enjoy!
