Where Did Everyone Go?

Missing Users MagicianHi,

So I was reviewing my feed stats the other day, and for the most part they were growing quite nicely - then all of a sudden it started to reverse.  Hmmm… odd, the only thing that I had done differently was post this article Would You Value The Message More If My Name Were Joe?

Naaaaah, it couldn’t be.  Could it?

I truly understand that sites are very dynamic.  In fact, if you read John Chows’ blog he ran a rather “nasty” April Fools gag on the 1st of April (I actually didn’t mind…) and had many people say that they would unsubscribe from his RSS feed and not visit his site any longer.  Instead, the number of RSS subscribers to his feed went up to just over 23,000 RSS Subscribers.

So am I worried if one post drove a few subscribers away?  Nope… just thought I’d share some information with you.

Take care!

Remember that feedburner shows you when someone reads/loads your feed. So if you had say 100 readers one day and then 59 the next it just means that 41 people didn’t load it. Don’t fret! I’m sure they will come around again.

The other option is to have people registered for the feeds via email. This gives you a list of their email addresses and also notifies you if anyone unsubscribes from it too. But then I like using Google Reader as opposed to reading my feeds via email.

Hi Tyler,

Welcome!

I didn’t know that - thanks for the tip.

Yah, I’m not too worried. I guess I will be if traffic all of a suddend drops off!

Take care,

Mo
